The Eskimo Blanket!

The Eskimo Blanket comes from the Inupaiq Indian Tribe from Alaska. Originally made of walrus hides with the circumference bordered by handles, the family or tribe would gather together around it at the beginning of hunting season. Usually the smallest member would climb onto the middle of the blanket and everyone else would hold on to the handles and at the call of the leader, they would toss him up in the air. The purpose of this was to get a good view of the terrain and see where buffalo were. "They're to the north!"
So - I first experienced the Eskimo Blanket back in November when I was being trained as a ropes course facilitator at CLAS Ropes in Provo. The owner, Benjamin Allen, makes these blankets out of the same material that's used for trampolines. It was SO FUN that I had to have one of my own. Over the Memorial Day weekend my husband, Peter's family was in town. It was the perfect opportunity. And they loved it! Here are some pics and video clips.
